Who We Are?
Chimpäroo, the registered trademark of L’écharpe Porte-bonheur inc., was created in 2007 by Christine Duhaime. A graduate in occupational therapy with a passion for textile design, its founder had a instant passion for babywearing when she discovered it on one of her travels. If this makes her own life as a mother so much easier, why couldn't it help thousands of others moms? She then decides to create her own brand on baby wraps and baby carriers at a time when babywearing was little-known in Québec.
Christine set for herself the goal to offer evermore innovative and high-quality products while also promoting the benefits of babywearing. It's with this vocation that she has continued to serve you for over 15 years!
Our Story
2007
A simple piece of fabric that changed everything
Florence was a baby who constantly needed to be held, a stark contrast to Christine's first child. Being hyperactive by nature, Christine found it overwhelming to constantly carry her baby without free hands. Everything changed when she discovered a baby wrap that allowed Florence to sleep peacefully while freeing her hands. This life-changing experience inspired Christine to share the benefits of babywearing with others, leading to the creation of Chimparoo. Today, Florence is a bright, caring young girl who enjoys taking care of others :).
2009
The First Major Innovation
Although the woven wrap is the most comfortable and versatile baby carrier, many parents are intimidated by it. Christine, aware of this difficulty, knew she had to find a more accessible solution without sacrificing the sling's essential properties. So she innovated by creating the first seat and height reduction system for the Mei Tai, an Asian-inspired style of baby sling. This innovation marked a turning point in the industry, offering greater comfort for newborns while simplifying use for parents.
2011
A Crucial Step for Chimparoo
In 2011, Christine invented the TREK and MULTI models, marking a pivotal moment for Chimparoo. These ergonomic baby carriers drove international growth, with the TREK praised for its woven wrap fabric and the MULTI being the only model to fully support a seated forward-facing position. Both were the first on the market to allow newborn carrying without cushions or inserts, setting the stage for Chimparoo's global success.
2013
Rising to International Fame
In 2013, Chimparoo experienced rapid growth. The brand's popularity soared, and demand for its baby carriers surged. Loyal customers multiplied, and retailers and distributors eagerly joined the adventure. This year was marked by international recognition, with Chimparoo participating in prestigious trade shows like the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas and babywearing events such as Babywearing International. Collaborations with Quebec personalities further boosted Chimparoo's renown, propelling the brand to new heights.
2015
Local Expansion and International Ambitions
2015 was a turning point for Chimparoo. The parent company, L’écharpe Porte-bonheur inc., partnered with its key subcontractors to build a 100% Quebec-based manufacturing company. With a move to new industrial premises in Boucherville, local production took off. This expansion paved the way for new ambitions: international exports and entry onto major sales platforms. It was also the year Chimparoo launched the design collection—a premium range featuring designer-signed, high-end fabrics that made waves in the market.
2017
A Year of Big Leaps and New Challenges
In 2017, Chimparoo took its first steps at the prestigious Kind und Jugend fair in Cologne, Germany, exhibiting alongside other Canadian companies. This event marked the beginning of an important partnership with a distributor in Taiwan, which lasted for several years. However, this period also brought challenges within the industry. During this time, Chimparoo began developing the EvöAir, a project that spanned several years and went through many prototypes before becoming the innovative, versatile baby carrier we know today.
2019
A Fresh Start for Chimparoo
In 2019, Chimparoo underwent major restructuring to overcome challenges. During a trade mission in China, they participated in the CBME Shanghai, the world’s largest industry trade show. A strategic partnership with Bblüv Group opened new opportunities for global expansion, marking a promising growth phase. Chimparoo also launched the innovative ready-to-wear Snüg wrap, making babywearing even more accessible.
2021
Resilience and Renewal
Despite the pandemic, Chimparoo focused on product innovation, leading to the release of the EvöAir and Mei Tai AIR carriers. Their emphasis on customer service and listening to parents' needs distinguished the company.
This period also saw a return to growth and a move to new premises in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.
2024
Return to In-Person Events
This year, Chimparoo reconnected with its local community through in-person events like fairs and exhibitions across Quebec. Meeting clients and sharing unforgettable moments reaffirmed their commitment. While current efforts focus on the Quebec market, Chimparoo is poised to explore new horizons in Canada and the U.S., fueled by the energy and smiles of their satisfied customers.
