The baby carrier is a precious daily ally. But to keep it safe, comfortable and soft for baby, good care is essential.
So... Should a new baby carrier need to be washed before use? By hand or in the machine? How can I prevent it from becoming damaged? We answer all your questions.

🍼 Should you wash your baby carrier before first use?
Yes, absolutely. Even if your baby carrier is brand new, it has been handled at several stages in its manufacture: cutting, sewing, quality control, packaging... It may therefore have accumulated dust or textile residues. The first wash will
-
Remove particles accumulated during the manufacturing process
-
Soften the fiber, especially in the case of woven wraps
-
Prepare the fabric for wearing, for greater softness and comfort.
💡 Our tip: wash it a few days before your due date so it's ready as soon as you get home. If you have a wrap, you can sleep in it for a few days to soften it up. This will also allow you to put your reassuring scent on the baby.
🚿 How to wash your baby carrier safely?
All Chimpäroo baby carriers can be washed, but with a few precautions to preserve their durability.
🖐️ Hand-wash (recommended method)
-
Soak the baby carrier in a bath of lukewarm water and mild soap (ideally without rinsing).
-
Rinse thoroughly to avoid irritating residues remaining on the fabric.
-
Remove excess water, taking care to squeeze out the straps.
🟢 Why choose a no-rinse soap? Because residues left in the fabric can irritate baby's sensitive skin. By using a no-rinse soap, you reduce this risk.
🌀 Machine wash (possible, but with a few precautions)
-
Use a cold delicate cycle.
-
Place the baby carrier in a washing bag for delicate clothes.
-
Use the same mild soap as for baby clothes.
⛔ Avoid fabric softeners and bleaching agents, which can damage fibers and irritate your baby's skin.
🌬️ How do I dry a baby carrier?
Air-drying is always preferable.
1. Squeeze the straps with your hands to remove as much water as possible.
2. Hang the baby carrier on a rope or clothes dryer.
3. Avoid the dryer, unless specifically indicated on the product sheet.
💡 Good to know: some Chimpäroo baby carriers like the Meh Dai Air, made from non-absorbent fibers, dry much faster!
🧽 Tips for removing stains from your baby carrier
Whether it's a milk stain, a puree stain or some other unavoidable mess, it's best to clean up stains quickly to prevent them from sticking. Use a clean cloth, warm water and mild soap to gently scrub the stained area.
For persistent stains, a little baking soda mixed with water can work wonders. Marseille soap is also a great option. Avoid chemical stain removers or bleach, which can damage fabric or irritate baby's skin.
🧼 Bib and Drooling Pads: your best friends for keeping your baby carrier clean longer
To limit wear and tear and space out complete washings, consider adding bib -protectors and a suitable bib-pad to your baby carrier. Babies like to chew and often drool or regurgitate on the areas closest to their mouths - the straps and the top of the panel. That's exactly why we've created our Chimparoo bib and drooling pads set, made from soft, absorbent, easy-to-wash fabric.

❓FAQ - Baby carrier care
Can a wrap be washed?
Yes. Wraps should be washed before first use to soften the fiber and remove manufacturing residues. They can be hand or machine washed, as indicated on the label.
What soap should I use to wash my baby carrier?
We recommend a mild, non-irritating soap, without perfume or additives. You can use the same soap as for baby's clothes. Ideally, choose a no-rinse soap.
Can I use the dryer?
It's best to hang the baby carrier. Some fibers can be tumble-dried at low temperatures, but this may shorten the product's lifespan. Always check the instructions included with your baby carrier.
How often should I wash my baby carrier?
Wash before the first use, then only when necessary. In the event of stains, spit-up or prolonged exposure to heat (and therefore sweat!), washing is recommended. Accessories such as bibs and pads can be washed more frequently.
